Mise-en-Scene Application in my Coursework

As my short film is a mockumentary I will not have to use any exaggerated or stand out mise-en-scene, as the actors should be playing in a more naturalistic style, however as they are portraying characters which are caricatures of a subculture they will be playing more extravagantly than in  simple documentary where the interviewees are playing themselves. The mise-en-scene will be sure to elevate this, as it will work in tandem with the character profiles to create the effect of a group of teenagers who believe they are vampires.
The short will open with an establishing shot in Wymondham Cemetery, immediately showing the theme throughout the film, beginning with a setting with darker undertones. I will try to film during the day when the weather is grey and gloomy, to bring in some pathetic fallacy, as the protagonist is someone who identifies with darker elements.
I will try to also capture some of the larger statues and graves in the shot, as this will allow for more creation of the aesthetics of the entire film. As this is a public place I will also try and film on a day when there is less foot traffic in order to not disturb those who are visiting the cemetery. After this establishing shot I will then move into the protagonist's house. I will use my own house to film in, as it will allow me more time to film in and will also mean that I have complete control over the entire set. I will also be able to re film easily if I decide to re shoot some scenes of my short. I will use my own bedroom as the protagonist's room due to it fitting her character archetype. As my room is decorated in darker colours than the rest of the house the juxtapositon between the protagonist and the rest of her family will be easy to see, allowing for more visual character development. I will then film the protagonist and her group of friends around Norwich in order to establish how the two groups (the vampire teens and the general public) are binary opposites. This will finish in the Chapelfield Shopping Centre food court. This is a busy area of Norwich, so may allow for some real reactions from the public to the actors in their roles.
The lighting in this film will be mostly natural lighting, as I plan to film during the day to avoid having to bring in artificial lights. The use of the sun will also bring in more juxtaposition between the main character and her surroundings, as she prefers a darker fashion and personality.
When the audience first is shown the protagonist's bedroom I will use some close-ups of different aspects which truely display her archetype. These include old horror film posters, a makeup bag, and a skull lamp. This will remove the need for more dialogue explaining this and will instead be able to show it visually, creating the overall aesthetic effect of a young girl who believes she is a vampire.
